Yes the new update makes barrage secondary to FS.
I was also speaking more in terms of PvE rather than PvP. In PvP FS is the better skill for sure since most humans don't stand around when getting barraged (unless they are in an FOW PUG game)

Cait (my healer) went out into Perdition Rock the first time yesterday and acted as co-healer for a capping/Final Blow group. There were a couple rangers, only one of whom brought their pet (if I misremember, I apologize). After a bit, the ranger specifically thanked me for healing her pet. I told her np. She then said that most healers wouldn't and I whispered that was one reason I did. I won't put the human part of the team in dire jeopardy for a pet, but the pet is still part of the team in my eyes. The dumb animal often shows more intelligence than their human counterpart .

Good for you! That's one thing I adore about the henchie monks. When I'm playing my ranger, they take care of my pet. My pet has some really good attacks that can help turn the tide from an almost disaster to a win. It's only hurting the team if the monks don't help me keep my pet alive.
I have a monk character, and when she starts grouping, I will definitely heal any pets.

I try keep my wolf Kage alive the sad part is were both 20 and he can survive an attack from 20 trolls but I get stomped into the ground, question HOW DOES THIS WORK!!!! Lol I only use that one signet that lets you have your pet with you I never take Comfort Animal he usually lives through quests. But most Ranger don't understand how usefull they can be. Example you see a large group of Trolls, stand far away and fire one arrow once it hits run a bit and let the wolf take an on. Once the two start to fight fire away with arrows, spells, or sent the warrior/ whatever, works everytime

From what I've witnessed, many rangers don't bring their pets because (they would rather use something els ein place of comfort animal). That or they couldn't be bothered and say 'if it dies then it's useless at that point in the map'. Which is just plain BS considering that if they will treat the pet that way then they shouldn't have one at all.
I've always put my pet on the same level as everyone else and heal them accordingly. Heck, I stopped carrying comfort animal and use revive animal in it's place. This way i can resurrect my own pet still while being able to resurrect careless beasters pets that are left to rot. If it isn't paranoia, i can see far fewer beastmasters out there now.

Either I'm paranoid or what is stated int he quote no longer seems to be the case. Since the last couple days: I've noticed a change in the enemy AI which makes pets as tanks less than viable. I still bring my pet everywhere however.
The changes (in a situation form) I've noticed are as follows:
1) Pet goes after a mob, mob ignores pet and all charge for you
2) Mob chases you down, pet follows, mob randmly picks at pet if it's blocking them.
3a) That mob is attacking the pet, you stop then and the mob goes after you once more.
3b) or you stop, the moment you attack them they all stop going after the pet and go after you again.
4) You'ru outside their chase-distance and some that stand around at that point stioll ignore the pet while doing nothing. They eventually run back off while pet is still thrashing at them at that point.
5) Meanwhile, the rest of the group that is over a map distance away- once *YOU* are (not the pet) back in their 'chase-range' they all come from across the map back to you only still ignoring the pet.
Maybe it's just me but Anet seemed to make the enemy AI go on 'ignore all pets' now. Would be more viable if they went after pets the same as they would go after warriors in the group or any melee-fighter. It used to be almost like that (close enough to it) but no longer. It's now just 'attack pet if you can't get through or around it'. Same situtation in the factions preview since they patched in the luxon\kurzik quests.
Now they just chase you like you are the only target on the map with a longer-than-life aggro range after they were initially disturbed.

Poor Nooblets. I would give him a hug if I ever saw him, although if it was pvp he would get an axe in his head. But yes, I die a little inside when my new tiger, "TonyTheTiger" dies. Sadly he is only a level 9. :[

Just because they're virtual, doesn't mean they aren't real. Haven't you seen Tron?

Nooblets is no longer a cat. A month ago he died for the last time as a cat while in Tombs. I prayed to Dwayna that he might be resurrected and she spoke to me. She told me to go to the Underworld when America has favor and seach for him. I got a couple of my guildies together and we when on a quest in search of Nooblets. After a grueling journey I came upon a large black spider. Although he had several scary looking eyes there was something oddly familiar about the spider. I called his name, and was overwhelmed with joy to find that it was Nooblets resurrected. I am so happy to have him back. He may not be cute and cuddly anymore. But, he still brushes up against my leg to show affection. Nooblets the Immortal.

I have a healer with a pet. It would be stupid to use it, but still it is fun. I really don't understand why my skills have to shut down, when it dies.
When on important missions, I don't take the pet with me. The risk of being called a noob is just to big.

Because you have a bond with your pet. Surely when your pet dies, you're affected in some way. Makes sense to me.

They should let us bring pets into outposts. I mean NPC's get them in Henge and Ember. Then when I do /dance, my bear could start break dancing too.

ROFL! I love it Kurt.
Pecky, my Moa Bird, is doing well and is a valued asset and companion while my War/Ran is out and about. At leask Pecky has something intellgent to say which is more that I can say for Devona.
I am going to look for a spider for a new ranger I'll be making... possibly a Nec/Ran pet machine. Mmmmmm, spiderlicious.

I have been experimenting with Beast Mastery skills the last couple of days. I noticed that the last re-balancing gave BM a huge boost and was wondering how useful/viable having a pet is for a ranger, as most rangers dont use pets (except in Tombs where B/P rangering is really popular).
I did quite well hunting sand drakes yesterday with just one healer henchie and my pet lynx using:
-Poison Arrow (elite)
-Feral Lunge (causes bleeding which stacks with poison)
-Predators Pounce (~40 damage that also heals your pet, and spammable)
-Brutal Strike (~70 damage once health is below 50%, also spammable)
-Predatory Season (heals you and your pet as you attack, stacks with vampiric bow)
-charm animal
-comfort animal
-troll unugent
Rangers can do two types of health degeneration: Bleeding and Poison, and you can't double one, but you can stack the two together. But the powers to cause bleeding and poison using arrows only are either preparations (apply poison) elites (poison arrow) or both (melandru's arrow).
So the only way you can stack them without using a pet is to barb trap and poison arrow, which is unreliable. Poison Arrow + Feral Lunge is much more reliable, and you can keep both up even on bosses till they are dead.
Fun way to give your pet some exercise.

I use pretty much the same buld as you wrote...and I use it quite often..its fun a fun build ArianeB..I love running a beast master build...a good beastmaster can deal some pretty sizable damage and conditions. My black widow dies way less than I do which is a sign of my rangers loyalty to her pet.
